Lisa Marie Presley to sue over article
Pregnant Lisa Marie Presley is suing Britain's Daily Mail newspaper for libel - after they published an article alleging she is over weight.
The singer, and only daughter of Elvis Presley, said the story, which was widely republished worldwide, forced her to confirm she is expecting a baby.
Lisa Marie's UK lawyer, Simon Smith, said claims that she had an "unhealthy appetite" and is "growing like her dad" had left the star "deeply upset and offended".
In a recent post on her MySpace page, Presley, 40, said that she only confirmed her pregnancy to stop the tabloids calling her fat.
"After being the target all week of slanderous and degrading stories, horribly manipulated pictures and articles in the media, I have had to show my cards and announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant," she wrote.
Presley revealed she was pregnant with hubby Michael Lockwood's child on Thursday, following the various media reports criticizing her weight.
Describing the press as "a pack of coyotes circling their prey", she added: "The US tabloids have been calling all day wanting confirmation on all kinds of insane theories.
"They couldn't wait to find out if my weight gain was because I was just overeating, in which case it would be open season and they can do the old following in her fathers sad and unfortunate demise story again."
She added: "Now that things are confirmed, hopefully they can stop all of the harassment and I can stop dodging the continuous bullets.
"It is unfortunate that I couldn't have announced something that is this much of a blessing and that has made us so incredibly happy under better circumstances.
"How they have handled themselves with this has been nothing short of irresponsible and disgusting."
Speaking to the Associated Press, Lisa Marie's spokeswoman Cindy Guagenti said some of the stories had gone too far.
"It's like, 'she's gonna die like her father', 'her and her mom are in a fight because of her weight' - that's not true at all. It's just awful stuff," she said.
Lisa Marie already has an 18-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son from her first marriage to musician to Danny Keough.
She briefly married Michael Jackson in 1994 and then actor Nicolas Cage.

Lisa Marie Presley's lawyers are suing British newspaper the Daily Mail after it published an article suggesting that the singer had developed an "unhealthy appetite" and "has gained weight like her father Elvis."
Presley, 40, revealed the real reason for her expanding waistline - announcing her pregnancy to PEOPLE on Thursday - and lashed back at the media on her MySpace Celebrity blog. "I have had to show my cards and announce under the gun and under vicious personal attack that I am in fact pregnant," she wrote.
Her lawyer, Simon Smith, issued a press release announcing the libel claim. In the release, Smith said: "My client is deeply upset and offended by this article, especially as it was widely published just as she and her family were meant to be celebrating her happy news."
